The process of forging metals has its roots in the Middle East around 4000 to 7000 B.C. The discovery fire soon led to the fact that it could be used to melt metals like gold, copper and silver. This allowed them to heat metals to be shaped into objects. Over the centuries the process has changed and improved in dramatic ways. The creation of bronze by combining copper and tin provided a sturdy alloy. Man began to forge tools and weapons.
Today we see things forged from TV shows like “Forged in Fire”, to farriers making and fitting horse shoes. We are not even addressing the industrial methods used. Today, individuals still enjoy carrying on the practice of forging metals the old way. If you would like seeing this method in person, we have a treat for you. Come to the Tulsa Irish Festival and watch it demonstrated before your eyes. The SaltFork Craftsmen will be there to show you the practice in action. These folks are bladesmiths using coal fired forges and making world class items while you watch. You can even purchase items that you like.
